EAGLES RC, SABAH ANGELS WIN AT LABUAN 10’S RUGBY CARNIVAL

Eagles Rugby Club successfully retained the Labuan 10’s rugby title after winning it again for the second consecutive year. The Sandakan based club did not face much problem to tame Sabah OSCA Warriors 29-0 in the Mens Cup Final. After having a good run in the preliminary round on Saturday, the Eagles continued their fine performance in the knock-out stage on Sunday. OSCA Warriors cruised into the final after a consistant display throughout the tournament. Baram Rhinos and KK Sharks shared the second runners-up place after losing their semifinal matches against the two finalists.

SMK Taman Fajar edged Barracuda in the final 7-5 to win the Boys Under-17 category. The final was a very exciting match as both sides showed strong determination to clinch the title. At the end, it was the conversion kick that make the difference for SMK Taman Fajar to emerge champions. SMK Tungku and SM La Salle finished joint third.

A total of 46 teams from Brunei, Sabah, Sarawak and Peninsula Malaysia participated in five categories of the 18th edition of the Labuan 10’s Rugby Carnival. Priya Suranga and Ajith Kumara were brought in from Sri Lanka to join another 24 top match officials from Malaysia for the two days tournament.

In the Womens final, Sabah Angels Warriors defeated KK Sharks 19-0 to claim the title. The Angels displayed an outstanding performance to secure the Womens Category. Local team, Victorian Queens beat Brunei’s Panaga Phyhons 15-7 to claim the Plate, and ERC Womens hammered UMS Islanders for the Bowl.

Panaga Crocs beat Tawau Oldboys 17-7 in the cup final to win the Labuan 10’s Veterans’ title. In the Plate final, OSCA Legends edged Brunei Bastidos 14-10. KRFC Blackcatz Legends defeated Sandakan Oldboys 21-5 to clinch the Bowls title.

SRU Academy clinched the Girls Under-17 title after beating Labuan Development 24-14 in the final. And SMSM Angels hammered SMK Tungku 33-0 to take home the Plate title. The Labuan 10’s Rugby Carnival has become the most exciting rugby tournament in Borneo in the last five years.
